Description
Freegate is an anti-censorship software developed by Dynamic Internet Technology (DIT) that allows access to websites blocked by governments or other entities. It uses a network of proxy servers called Dynaweb, which operates similarly to a peer-to-peer (P2P) system, enabling users to bypass firewalls and internet restrictions. The program is very popular in countries with strict censorship, such as China, Iran, and Cuba, helping millions of people access restricted content, such as social networks and news websites. Freegate is easy to use and does not require installation, just running an .exe file on Windows systems. It offers two operating modes - Proxy mode, which automatically adjusts the browser settings to access blocked websites, and Classic mode, which allows browsing through the Dynaweb homepage. Additionally, the software incorporates a unique algorithm for encryption and compression, enhancing the security and efficiency of the connection. Another strong point is privacy protection: Freegate can automatically clear the browsing history upon exit, and its rotating proxy network helps maintain user anonymity. Despite being free and effective, the connection speed may be affected depending on the available proxy server. Initially developed with support from practitioners of Falun Gong and partially funded by entities such as the U.S. Broadcasting Board of Governors, Freegate has been a solid tool in the fight against online censorship since its launch in 2004.
